Big Blow to Mukesh Ambani as 10.9 Million Users Depart Jio

Recent reports indicate a significant shift in Reliance Jio’s user base following the recent hike in recharge plan tariffs. In the second quarter, approximately 10.9 million customers left the network.

Despite this decline, experts suggest that such changes in user loyalty are common in the telecom industry, particularly after tariff adjustments. Notably, Jio’s 5G subscriber base has actually increased by 17 million, rising from 130 million to 147 million. Additionally, the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) has improved from ₹181.7 to ₹195.1.

While the overall subscriber count has dropped, Jio has acknowledged the situation, asserting that the loss of users will not significantly impact profits. The company remains committed to enhancing its 5G network and aims to leverage Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services to connect more households. Jio stated that while the departure of 10.9 million users may benefit competing telecom operators, it views this as an opportunity rather than a setback.
