On Thursday, U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his election victory. He promised to ensure an orderly transition of leadership.
Biden emphasized that, in a democracy, the will of the people prevails. Therefore, he stated that his administration will work closely with Trump’s team to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power. In a message on X, Biden wrote, “Yesterday, I spoke with President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his victory. And I assured him that I would direct my entire Administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”

Furthermore, Biden commended Vice President Kamala Harris for her dedication and positivity during the campaign. He stated in another post, “Kamala Harris is an extraordinary partner and public servant. She ran an inspiring campaign, and everyone got to see something I respect so much in her—her character. She gave her whole heart to the effort, and she and her entire team should be proud of the campaign they ran.” Biden expressed pride in Harris’s efforts and commitment.
Biden also acknowledged that Democrats accept the nation’s decision to elect Trump. Importantly, he emphasized that true patriotism requires respecting democratic outcomes, even in defeat. He said, “The struggle for the soul of America since our very founding has always been ongoing. Campaigns are contests of competing visions. And we accept the choice the country made. You can’t love your country only when you win.”
In addition, Biden pledged to uphold the Constitution and fulfill his presidential responsibilities. He assured Americans that the transfer on January 20 will proceed peacefully. Biden also defended the transparency of the U.S. electoral system, calling it “honest, fair, and transparent.”
