In response to the growing demand for student hostels, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is constructing new hostels and renovating historic buildings. After the refurbishment of the nearly 150-year-old Charu Mahal, it has been designated as a hostel for Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya students.

This school, established in 1883 and integrated into BHU in 1918, has long faced challenges regarding hostel availability. With the renovation of Charu Mahal, this issue is now resolved. The upgraded building, featuring 20 flats and 52 rooms, will accommodate 120 students. The renovation, prioritized by BHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain, aimed to meet student needs urgently.

BHU announced on its official X handle, “BHU’s iconic Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya has got a new hostel with 120 seating capacity. The heritage building Charu Mahal has been allotted to the school after its renovation and development of necessary student amenities.” Another post highlighted, “The building is said to be nearly 150 years old and has assumed the status of a heritage building. It has 20 flats and 52 rooms and was underutilised. Charu Mahal has been renovated on priority at the initiative of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain.”

Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain emphasized the university’s commitment to student needs, stating, “The needs of school students who go to other cities for studies are different from those of university students. In such a situation, we gave priority to the work of providing hostel facilities in Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya. We are fully committed to the development of infrastructure and facilities and are continuously working in this direction.”

Dr. Anand Kumar Jain, Principal of Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya, remarked on the building’s transformation, saying, “This two-storey building was not in very good condition and neither was its capacity being fully utilized. Now, the students will benefit a lot by renovating this building and allocating it to the school.”
