Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced a partnership with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to develop a 50 kW alkaline electrolyser system for hydrogen production, as per a filing with the exchange. This technology transfer agreement marks a significant step in BHEL’s commitment to indigenous hydrogen production methods, with a focus on applications in sectors such as refineries, fertilizers, steel, and transportation.

The electrolyser system, developed locally by BHEL, boasts a high content of domestic materials. Through this collaboration, BHEL aims to scale up Indigenous Alkaline Electrolyser Technology and bring it to commercial use. The signing ceremony included key representatives from BHEL and BARC, signifying a joint effort towards supporting initiatives like the ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission’ and ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’.

This collaboration underscores BHEL’s dedication to cleaner energy solutions and contributes to India’s transition towards sustainable practices. The company’s recent achievements, including the successful commissioning of critical substations under the Neemuch REZ TBCB project and its strong performance in the stock market, reflect its ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in the energy sector.
