The reverse counting of the Assembly elections in Rajasthan has begun. All political parties are active, searching for winning candidates. Bharatpur district has 7 Assembly seats.
In 2018, Congress won 4 seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won 2 seats. On the Bharatpur city Assembly seat, Congress made a dramatic move during the night by forming an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), fielding a RLD candidate from here. Subhash Garg, supported by Congress, won the seat. It’s noteworthy that in the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP failed to open its account in Bharatpur, and the party was completely wiped out from the region. Bharatpur is considered a stronghold of the BJP, and this time it is speculated that the BJP can hoist its flag in the majority of the Assembly seats in the district. Bharatpur district is a Jat-majority region, and in the Nadbai Assembly seat of Bharatpur, a Jat community candidate has always won and reached the Assembly. Breaking this trend in 2018, the BSP was successful in capturing the Nadbai seat, when Joginder Singh Awana won this seat. Later, the BSP merged with the Congress.
Likely to be a triangular contest:
The Deeg-Kumher Assembly seat has always been with the Rajparivar (royal family). In 2008, Dr. Digambar Singh won from here, and this time, his son Dr Shailesh Digambar Singh, is trying his luck, and he will likely be in a contest with Vishvendra Singh. However, former minister Natthi Singh’s son Subhash is also preparing to enter the election arena. If all three candidates stand, it is likely to be a triangular contest.
Meanwhile, the Vaishya community has dominated the Bharatpur city Assembly seat for 20 years. Twenty years ago, the Brahmin community influenced the seat. There are approximately 2.7 lakh voters in the Bharatpur Assembly constituency. In the role of crucial voters, there are Brahmins, Jats, SCs, STs, and Vaishya voters. In the Bharatpur City Assembly constituency, Jat voters who migrated from Uttar Pradesh have suddenly increased their numbers, and their population is now almost equal to Brahmin voters. Looking at the record, whether it is the Congress or the BJP, both parties do not generally nominate Jat candidates.
Potential candidates have already started campaigning:
Potential BJP candidates have started their election campaigns on the Bharatpur Assembly seat. Several candidates from the Vaishya and Brahmin communities are participating in the 2023 election race and are actively campaigning day and night. Bhajan Lal Sharma, Giridhari Tiwari, and Navin Parashar from the Brahmin community, and Vijay Bansal, Yash Agarwal, and Brajesh Agarwal from the Vaishya community, along with many Jat community individuals, are vying for a BJP ticket. Although, the political dynamics in Bharatpur are slightly different this time, as now the Jat community is also putting forward its claim for the ticket.
Several people have applied for tickets from the Congress Party as well. In the 2018 elections, due to the Congress and RLD alliance, the Bharatpur City Assembly seat went to the RLD’s account. Dr. Subhash Garg, who won last time as an RLD candidate, later became a minister in the Congress government. This time, Dr Subhash Garg has applied for a ticket from the Bharatpur City Assembly seat under the RLD alliance. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Congress Party forms an alliance with other parties this time or not.
