The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asserted chief minister Bhagwant Mann had not only betrayed slain farmer Shukhkaran Singh but also the farming community and Punjabis by registering a FIR against unidentified persons instead of the Haryana Police in connection with the youth’s death.

In a statement here, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said the chief minister had colluded with the Haryana government and its chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to deny justice to Shubhkaran. Terming this as an about turn from the chief minister’s assurance to register an FIR in the case, Bikram Majithia said “now a weak FIR has been registered deliberately to ensure the case falls flat in court”. He also asserted that tomorrow the farmers themselves could be accused of killing Shubhkaran because a case had been registered against unidentified persons.

Asserting that Shubhkaran would now never get justice, the SAD leader reminded the chief minister that he used to repeatedly claim that the police force could not fire against anyone without direct orders from the chief minister or the home minister. “What has happened now? Why is the chief minister trembling at registering an FIR against those who killed Shubhkaran?”

Majithia said besides Shubhkaran, the Aam Aadmi Party government had also failed the five farmers who had been martyred in the ongoing farmer agitation besides Preetpal Singh who was brutally assaulted by Haryana police personnel after being kidnapped from Punjab territory. The Akali leader also accused the Punjab Congress and its president Raja Warring of playing a friendly match with the AAP government. “The two parties have formed an alliance but the Congress is making a pretense of protesting against the AAP government even though its president Raja Warring has compromised with the chief minister to ensure no case of corruption is registered against him”.
