A heartwarming and tragic story of loyalty has captured the attention of pet lovers across the globe. Belka is a dog from Russia that showed unflinching loyalty to her owner who tragically drowned after falling through thin ice while cycling along the Ufa River in Bashkortostan.
Despite rescue teams recovering the man’s body downstream after days of searching, Belka’s refusal to leave the scene of the incident has melted hearts across the globe.
The accident happened when the 59-year-old man, cycling along the frozen river, fell through the fragile ice. The people nearby tried to save him, but the ice could not bear his weight, and he died in the accident. His body was found days later by rescue teams downstream from where the accident occurred.

Belka remained at the spot of the tragedy for four days, seemingly waiting for her owner to return. Even after the man’s family took her home, Belka would run away and return to the same location. Her persistent vigil was a testament to her loyalty, and it was only after being brought to see her owner’s lifeless body that Belka finally left the riverbank.
Belka‘s story went parallel to the famous Japanese Akita Hachiko, who awaited his owner at a train station for so many years after the master’s death. People came out on social media with emotional reaction, saying that dogs are an angel on earth and with them, humans can learn some true love.
Like Hachiko, Belka’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the deep bond between humans and their pets. Her dedication exemplifies the purest form of love and loyalty, resonating with people worldwide. As one social media user aptly commented, “We don’t deserve dogs.”
