Investigators searching for the dismembered body parts of Bangladesh MP Anwar Azim Anar, allegedly dumped in the Bagjola canal, suspect butcher Jihad Hawladar disposed them off in the late evenings when the area was deserted.
Locals gathered at the suspected disposal site in Jirangachha village near Hatisala, where Jihad claims he discarded the body parts around May 14-15. They noted that the area becomes deserted around 8 pm but becomes lively again after midnight due to a wholesale vegetable market at Gachtala, approximately 150 meters from the dump site.
The search location is about 12 km from the New Town complex where the murder occurred on May 13 and 7 km from Bhojerhat. On Saturday afternoon, fishermen cast nets into the murky water after divers struggled with poor visibility.
Sources indicate that Jihad meticulously selected the site after conducting multiple reconnaissance missions around Bhangar, targeting sparsely populated wetlands east of Kolkata to dispose of the remains without drawing attention.
Police sources revealed that Jihad, currently in CID custody, arrived in Kolkata in early March after being recruited to dispose of Azim’s body. He stayed in a flat in Chinar Park’s Atghara for two and a half months before reaching the triplex apartment in Sanjeeva Garden on May 13, the day of the murder.
The rented apartment where the murder took place spans three floors. However, only the lower two floors were rented to Bangladesh-born US citizen Md Akhtaruzzaman, alias Shaheen, for Rs 1 lakh a month by an assistant commissioner of the state excise department.
On May 7, six days before the murder, Celesty Rehman covered the sole CCTV camera in the apartment’s kitchen with a dark cloth. Celesty lured Aziz to the flat where he was killed within 15 minutes of arriving around noon on May 13. Before the camera was covered, it captured images of Celesty cooking meals and other men washing utensils and dumping waste.
Plastic Bags and Other Items Found: Plastic bags, tissue papers, gloves, and a boarding pass with Celesty Rahman’s name were found in the New Town flat where Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered.
Search Efforts: Kolkata police are searching for the MP’s dismembered body parts in Bhangar after the murder, with the crime scene having been cleaned with acid, according to CID and Bangladeshi investigators.
Investigation Updates: Anar was allegedly killed due to a business deal, with the West Bengal CID set to interrogate suspects in Dhaka as part of the ongoing investigation.
