The Bangladesh Mission in New Delhi celebrates their Independence Day this week. Because of Ramadan, they could not hold it before. During the celebration, a musical evening was organised on the premises of the mission in memory of national anthem composer Rabindranath Tagore and national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. That mission had
invited ambassadors and diplomats from several missions in the capital, along with Indian diplomats. After many years, they have invited Pakistani diplomats from the New Delhi High Commission. It was interesting to watch Pakistani diplomats enjoy the cultural evening, where the theme of the programme was how Bangladesh was created after a long, protracted war with Pakistani forces. Bangladesh High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman, in his welcome address, mentioned the atrocities unleashed against the citizens of East Pakistan.

POACHING BY TMC MAY CREATE SPANNER
Recently, TMC roped in the lone Congress MLA of West Bengal in a ceremony. General Secretary of the party Abhishek Baneerjee has inducted the Sagardighi legislator in a public function in the Ghatal district of Medinipore. The MLA recently won the Sagardighi constituency, defeating TMC. Left parties had rendered support to the Congress candidate. The result definitely unnerved the ruling TMC, and they were trying to rope in the MLA. It was seen in that area that minorities had switched over to the joint candidates of the left and Congress. This poaching has annoyed the Congress party. The state party has complained to the high command about the undemocratic behaviour of TMC. To satisfy the
state party, AICC Spokesperson Jairam Ramesh had to issue a statement saying that this type of poaching would jeopardise opposition unity.

NEW POLITICAL UPHEAVAL IN JHARKHAND
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is now trying to consolidate his support base before the assembly poll. He had announced that the state government may increase the quota for reservations up to 73 percent. Though the government is not sure how the apex court will react to this reservation policy, to study the issue, the Chief Minister has announced to form a committee to go into it. After getting a report from the committee, the state government may announce the policy. The opposition BJP is already up in arms
and said that, knowing fully well that the reservation policy is not easy, the CM started giving false hopes to the tribals.
