Mumbai police have launched an investigation following a complaint by a 21-year-old YouTuber residing in Bandra. The YouTuber reported an unauthorized intrusion into the CCTV camera installed in his home, resulting in the dissemination of private footage on various social media platforms. The incident came to light when the YouTuber’s friends notified him on December 9 about the video appearing on YouTube, Instagram, and Telegram, depicting him in a vulnerable state. The footage, dated November 17, reportedly shows the YouTuber in a compromising position as he exits his bathroom.
In his complaint filed with the Bandra police last week, the victim asserted that the CCTV footage, intended for private use, was illicitly accessed and shared online. The police have registered a case against unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including defamation (Section 500), along with provisions of the Information Technology Act. Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the privacy breach.
