A 42-year-old finance firm manager, Tarun Saxena, was found dead in his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi. Saxena had been with Bajaj Finance for the last nearly eight years. He has left behind a suicide note to his wife. He mentioned therein the overwhelming stress that he was labouring under due to the threats and pressures from his superiors who allegedly compelled him to either produce his targets or resign. Till date, his family has not filed a police complaint and Bajaj Finance also hasn’t responded to the complaints.
The body was found hanging by a housekeeper. He had locked his wife, Megha and his children, Yatharth and Pihu in another room, before death.
The housekeeper called Gaurav Saxena, who is the cousin of Saxena and lives within a proximity to call him about the incident. Gaurav reached the scene and was able to unlock the door of the room in which Tarun had confined his family before he killed himself. The police were then called with further details of the incident.
“Tarun Saxena was my elder cousin. He was working as an area manager in Bajaj Finance. They had been pressurizing him to collect more amount from the market. When he didn’t raise the money on time, they used to cut his salary. This morning around 6:00 am, Vaibhav Saxena and Prabhakar Mishra, who reside in Bhopal, were having a conference call with him, which has resulted in this unfortunate ending, says Gaurav to India Today.
According to a report by NDTV, his suicide note pointed out that he along with his colleagues had been directed to pad the unpaid EMIs which they were unable to recover in his area.
I am very tense about the future. I have lost my ability to think. I am going…. I have not slept for 45 days. I have hardly eaten. I am under a lot of stress. Senior managers are pressuring me to meet targets at any cost or quit,” he wrote in the note, as reported by NDTV.
He had already paid his children’s school fees for the year. “You all take care of Megha, Yatharth, and Pihu. Mummy, Papa, I have never asked for anything, but I am doing so now. Please build the second floor so that my family can live comfortably,” he wrote in the note.
The report further stated that Saxena, in a five-page letter, has requested his children to continue their studies and take proper care of their mother. He has also requested his relatives to facilitate the process of making a claim for the insurance money on behalf of his family.
In his complaint, which he submitted to the police, he quoted the names of his seniors as the reason for his decision, saying, “They are responsible for my decision.” He has also requested his family to lodge a complaint with the police against the persons he has named.
Jhansi Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Kumar confirmed that Tarun died by suicide by hanging with a scarf.
“A suicide note was found, in which the deceased accused his superiors of harassment and pressuring him to meet high recovery targets. If the family files a complaint, further investigation will be initiated,” Kumar told India Today.
