Suryakumar Yadav, the new T20I captain for Team India, is excited about leading the team in his debut series as captain against Sri Lanka. He succeeds the retired Rohit Sharma and has long relished leadership roles, gaining valuable insights from various captains throughout his career. Suryakumar remains positive and prepared for this new challenge.

Reflecting on his new position, Suryakumar said, “I have always enjoyed being a leader on the field even though I am not a captain. I have always learnt a lot of things from different captains. It’s a good feeling, and a great responsibility also.” These comments were made in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

His first test will be a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, beginning on Saturday. Suryakumar was selected over Hardik Pandya for the role.

Discussing his approach to leadership, Suryakumar highlighted the importance of humility and balance. He stated, โ€œI think the most important thing I have learnt from this sport is how humble you are, after achieving or even when you are not doing well. That’s one thing I have learnt โ€“ when you do something on the ground, you have to leave it on the ground. Then, when you go off the field, that’s it.โ€

He elaborated on his outlook on cricket and life, emphasizing, “This is not your life; it’s just part of your life. So, you can’t be โ€“ when you are doing well you stay on top and when you are not doing well, you are underground. That’s one thing which I feel you shouldn’t do as a sportsman, not only as a cricketer. That’s one thing I have learnt. That’s what helped me create balance in my life. And if you are a good person, everything happens good.”

Suryakumar intends to infuse the team with his philosophy of humility and balance, aiming to lead India to continued success in T20 cricket.
