The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Allahabad High Court to hear the plea of disqualified Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan, who is seeking a stay of his conviction in connection with a protest in 2008.

The decision was made by a bench of justices led by KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna while hearing Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan’s petition. The Supreme Court asked the Allahabad High Court to hear the case on April 10 and rule on the stay application as soon as possible.

Abdullah Khan, son of SP leader Azam Khan, was represented by senior advocate Vivek Tankha and advocate Sumeer Sodhi.

Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan has challenged the Allahabad High Court order dated March 17, claiming that he was a juvenile at the time of the incident.

Khan was barred from serving in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after being convicted and sentenced to two years in prison in a 15-year-old case. In the Rampur district Assembly, Abdulla Khan represented the Suar constituency.
