As the festival of lights approaches, Ayodhya is bustling with preparations for ‘Deepotsav-2024,’ set to take place on October 30, just a day before Diwali. This year, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to set a Guinness World Record by illuminating the ghats along the Sarayu River with 25 lakh diyas.
This year’s Deepotsav is particularly significant as it marks the first celebration following the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s temple. Last year, lamps were lit on 51 ghats, but this year’s festivities will expand to 55 ghats, showcasing an even grander spectacle.
Guinness World Records official Nischal Barot highlighted the challenges involved in counting the diyas, stating, “The biggest challenge for us is to complete the counting. Our entire system relies on a symmetrical arrangement.” He mentioned that a team of thirty members, along with 300 volunteers, will manage the counting process both before and after the diyas are lit.
In addition to the lighting of diyas, Ayodhya is hosting a three-day grand exhibition at Ram Katha Park, showcasing art pieces that depict the Ramayana, organized by the Lalit Kala Academy, Uttar Pradesh. The exhibition began on October 28 and will continue until October 30, featuring numerous sculptures created by Lalit Kala artists that illustrate the life and struggles of Lord Ram.
As families across India prepare for Diwali, homes will be adorned with colorful rangoli patterns and illuminated with diyas and fairy lights. The celebrations will include prayers to Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, sharing of sweets and snacks, and exchanging gifts, culminating in dazzling fireworks that light up the night sky. Diwali 2024 is anticipated to be a time of togetherness, reflection, and joy, fostering a spirit of unity and hope for the coming year.
