The Agricultural Working Group (AWG) is all set to hold its second Agricultural Deputies Meeting from 29th to 31st March 2023 at Chandigarh. With the participation of delegates from 19 member countries, 10 invited countries, and 10 international organisations, the event is expected to be a crucial platform for discussions on sustainable agriculture, food security, and nutrition.
Ritesh, Joint Secretary (IC), Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming event by stating that the meeting would be an essential platform for countries to collaborate and discuss measures to ensure sustainable agriculture, food security, and nutrition. He further added that the department is honoured to host the event in Chandigarh and looks forward to a fruitful discussion.
Rajinder Chaudhry, Additional Director General of PIB Chandigarh, mentioned that the AMIS Rapid Response Forum, scheduled for the first day of the meeting, is a critical initiative aimed at addressing the food market situation and identifying capacity building needs. He expressed his hopes that the forum would provide a vision for the future progress of the initiative. During the second and third days of the meeting, member countries will focus on drafting the Communiqué, addressing four thematic areas: food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture with a climate smart approach, inclusive agricultural value chains and food systems, and digitalization for agricultural transformation.
Besides the discussions, delegates will also get to experience the rich cultural heritage of Chandigarh through a visit to the food festival at Rock Garden, an excursion to Sukhna lake, followed by a gala dinner and a visit to Yadavindra Gardens at Pinjore.
The event aims to be a platform for countries to come together and work towards a sustainable future for agriculture and food security.
