Threads has rolled out a new feature designed to enhance how users share media on the platform. The update allows users to reshare photos and videos without including the original post, offering a simpler way to add personal text while still crediting the content creator, according to The Verge.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained that this new feature provides “a quick, easy way to add your creative takes to trending images and clips without quote posting.”
When users reshare media, the original creator’s username will appear in the top left corner, along with a repost counter in the lower left corner. Tapping the username allows users to view a list of all posts that have used the media, with the original post displayed at the top.

This update addresses concerns over users reposting content without giving proper credit. Creators will be notified whenever their content is reshared and can choose to disable resharing through their account settings, The Verge reported. This ensures creators receive recognition for their work and retain greater control over their content.
To use the feature, users simply need to long-press the media or click the repost button, select “use media,” and add their text before sharing.
The feature mirrors a similar option on X (formerly Twitter), which allows resharing of videos with credit, though X’s system is limited to video content only.
Threads’ new resharing feature improves the user experience and supports content creators’ rights, providing a cleaner way to share media while ensuring proper attribution.
