Honda launches its most affordable bike in India, Shine 100

Japanese two-wheeler maker Honda has finally entered the mass market 100 cc bike segment in the country. The brand has launched its most affordable and fuel-efficient motorcycle Shine 100 in the market. The segment till now has been dominated by the likes of Hero Splendor and Bajaj Platina and Honda is trying to use the name of its largest selling motorcycle in India to make a dent in this very lucrative segment. According to Honda, the Shine 100 is developed with as many as 12 patent applications.

Design
The look of the Shine 100 is inspired by Shine125, but the overall graphic theme is slightly distinct. It gets an appealing front cowl, all black alloy wheels, an aluminum grab rail, a bold looking tail lamp and a sleek distinguished muffler compliment which make the bike look quite smooth. The seat is 677mm long which according to Honda provides ample space for rider and the pillion. The bike also gets a uniquely designed tank and a narrow leg opening angle, giving the rider good knee grip.

Engine
The Shine 100 runs on an all-new 100cc OBD2 compliant PGM-FI engine with Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) which optimizes energy output by maximizing efficient combustion and minimizing friction with a smooth eco-friendly engine. Honda says this new 100cc engine is light weight and efficient which delivers class leading mileage. External fuel pump fitted outside the fuel tank reduces the maintenance time as it is easily accessible.
A Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system uses onboard sensors to constantly inject optimum fuel and air mixture which aids in consistent power output, high fuel efficiency & less emissions. The piston cooling jet reduces friction & maintains optimum engine temperature. The offset cylinder and use of rocker roller arm further reduce the frictional loss which not only helps in smooth and better power output, but also improves fuel efficiency.

Ride & Handling
Honda says, the riding position has been designed keeping in mind comfortable riding and load carrying. The seat height of 786mm allows easy ground touch for average height Indian riders. The specially developed suspension unit with long stroke has been designed keeping in mind all kinds of road conditions with ease. It’s ability to absorb the vibrations on rough surface gives extra stability and confidence to the rider and pillion. For safety, the bike gets a side stand cut-off as well as Combi-Brake System (CBS) with Equalizer.
Honda claims that the light-weight durable steel frame contributes to overall lower vehicle weight. It gives a soft steering feel and better manoeuvrability. Durable & tough frame is suitable for variable road conditions and supports carrying load. The bike gets a small turning radius of 1.9 meters which is the best in segment according to the brand. Another claim is that Shine 100 can easily climb inclines even while carrying heavy loads. The bike gets a long Wheelbase of 1,245 mm and a high ground clearance of 168 mm.

Prices
The Honda Shine 100 is priced starting at Rs. 64,900 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). It is available in 5 colour options – Black with Red Stripes, Black with Blue Stripes, Black with Green Stripes, Black with Gold Stripes and Black with Grey Stripes. Honda is offering a 6-year warranty package (3 years standard + 3 years optional extended warranty) on the bike.
