More than 3000 migrants make the journey back to Afghanistan from Turkey

In the past 20 days, over 3,000 Afghans have been transported from Turkey to Kabul for deportation, as reported by Afghan news agency Khaama Press, citing the head of the Ministry of Refugees’ Legal Support Directorate. Among the deported were seven families and seven children, transported by plane.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) provided financial assistance to 3,083 people, totalling 36,996,000 Afghanis. According to reports, 1,402 people got healthcare services, while 2,416 people were added to the contact list.

The joint receiving office at Kabul International Airport, operated by the Taliban-led Ministry of Refugees’ Affairs and the International Organisation for Migration, was temporarily closed due to the government transition.

As Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis worsens, neighbouring countries such as Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey have boosted deportation efforts. According to recent estimates, approximately 6,000 Afghan migrants re-entered the nation in a single day via the Torkham and Spin Boldak borders.

Many Afghans, who sought refuge in Pakistan after the Taliban takeover, face uncertainty with expired visas and prolonged resettlement processes in various countries. The situation leaves them vulnerable to detention and deportation.
