An Australian expat was left stunned when his Uber Eats meal was delivered to Dublin, Ireland—almost 9,600 miles (15,400 km) away from where he really was. The 29-year-old, a native of Belfast, was hanging out with friends Kyle, 33, and Sarah, 29, one evening when he ordered a takeaway for them to enjoy. But a forgotten error in the shipping address transformed his easy plan into an international ordering fiasco, as published by the New York Post.
The dinner, costing $65 and consisting of BBQ chicken pizzas, garlic bread, and chips, was supposed to be delivered to his Australian home. Instead, the confirmation indicated that the food was being shipped to a Dublin address. “I was totally devastated,” he conceded, realizing the expensive mistake.
When hunger hit, the annoyance mounted. “My heart just fell because we were hungry and we were going to have to go through the entire process again of figuring out where to order and what we wanted,” he explained. To rectify the situation, he immediately called Uber Eats customer service. During the call, he said, “I need to cancel the order,” as his friends burst into laughter at the predicament.
Viral Popularity on TikTok
The whole thing was caught on camera by his roommates and posted on TikTok, which quickly went viral, receiving over 500,000 views. The popularity of the video spawned a surprise influx of reactions from laughing viewers. “People have been messaging wanting his social media and saying he can get a takeaway sent to their house,” one of his friends said. Another said, “He was so polite on the phone… we were crying our heads off.”
Though the gaffe, the expat handled the spotlight well. “I enjoy that people enjoyed it,” he remarked, going on to say, “These kinds of things happen to me all the time and I didn’t know there was an audience for it.”
Fortunately, the tale had a happy ending—he was able to get a full refund for his lost order.
