The GCC (Global capability center) of British-Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca is set to invest Rs 250 crore ($30 million) in expanding its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai.

This expansion is set to generate 1,300 jobs, with special emphasis on innovation, efficiency enhancement, and streamlining of operations across the company globally.

Currently, the facility has 334,000 square feet of office space at Ramanujan IT City. Within six months, it plans to add 180,000 square feet to accommodate expansion.

By expanding GITC, the company aims to leverage modern technologies like enterprise platform, artificial intelligence, machine learning, Data science and supply chain analytics to enhance healthcare outcomes.

Talking about investment, the managing director & country president of AstraZeneca Dr. Sanjeev Panchal says, ‘Our expansion in Chennai signifies AstraZeneca’s unwavering commitment to pioneering science and innovation.’

He also emphasized that this strategic expansion underscores the importance of enhancing patient wellbeing through cutting-edge technology. Thus, aiming to transform the future of healthcare industry.
