The Assam government and Bright Star Investments Pvt. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday to create the infrastructure for the planned medical college in Guwahati.

According to a press statement from the government, the MoU was signed during a ceremony conducted at Guwahati’s Janata Bhawan in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The company owned by prominent investor and businessman Radhakishan Damani was praised by the chief minister of Assam for its CSR donation of Rs 150 crore toward the construction of the college.

“We’ve initiated partnerships in PPP mode so private and public players can participate in the region’s development process. I am sure this PPP initiative will go a long way in enhancing medical education and research in the region,” Sarma said.

Senior members of the state government and business community were also present, including Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta.

On Thursday morning, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Assam Medical College’s (AMC) platinum jubilee festivities in Dibrugarh.
