Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Arun Hemachandra, praised the decision to award Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Mitra Vibhushana, calling it a significant moment in India-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations.
Speaking to ANI, Hemachandra said, “We see this as a very important milestone that reflects our strong historic and diplomatic ties. Our new government is eager to work closely with India.”
He also acknowledged India’s unwavering support, especially during tough times. “India’s Neighborhood First policy has consistently supported Sri Lanka and its people. We deeply appreciate this ongoing friendship.”
PM Modi, who is on his first Sri Lanka visit since 2019, was warmly welcomed and later expressed gratitude on X:
“This honour is not mine alone – it’s a tribute to the 1.4 billion people of India and our deep-rooted friendship with Sri Lanka.”
With both nations committed to stronger engagement, the future looks promising for India-Sri Lanka ties.
