Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto shared a light-hearted and personal connection with India during a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu. The event, attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, turned lively when Subianto revealed, “A few weeks ago, I had my genetic sequencing test and my DNA test, and they told me that I have Indian DNA. Everybody knows when I hear Indian music, I start dancing.” His comment sparked laughter among the dignitaries.
Emphasizing Deep Historical Links
President Subianto highlighted the strong cultural ties between India and Indonesia. He explained, “India and Indonesia have a long, ancient history together. We have civilizational links. Even now, a very important part of our language comes from Sanskrit. Many names in Indonesia are actually Sanskrit names, and in our daily life, the influence of ancient Indian civilization is very strong. I think it’s also part of our genetics.”
Praising PM Modi’s Vision
Subianto admired Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and commitment to social welfare. He said, “I came here for a few days but learned a lot from Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and commitments. His dedication to alleviating poverty, helping the marginalized, and supporting the weakest parts of your society is an inspiration for us.”
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude, adding, “I am very proud to be here in India. I am not a professional politician or a good diplomat; I say what is in my heart.” Subianto wished India prosperity, peace, and greatness while urging both nations to strengthen their partnership.

Chief Guest at Republic Day
President Subianto attended India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest. He brought along a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. A major highlight was the performance by Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta, a 190-member band from the Indonesian Military Academy. The ensemble showcased discipline and military tradition, reflecting the shared respect for heritage.
Strengthening Ties with New Agreements
During his three-day visit, India and Indonesia signed and renewed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements covered important areas such as health, traditional medicine, and maritime security. These steps further solidify the growing partnership between the two nations and their shared vision for progress.
