Kathmandu [Nepal]: In a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity, students at Bouddha International School in Kathmandu created a unique global experience by representing 50 different nations through an interactive exhibition.

The school’s “International Day” transformed the campus into a mini-global village, with students showcasing traditional attire, cuisine, geography, landmarks, and political systems of various countries. The initiative aimed to enhance students’ knowledge of world cultures through hands-on learning.

A Collaborative Learning Experience

Supported by diplomatic missions in Nepal, the exhibition received contributions from embassies, some of which provided authentic products from their respective countries. Students conducted thorough research on their assigned nations, prepared visually appealing stalls, and confidently presented their findings to visitors.

“First, we researched UNICEF, set up our stall, and made it attractive. This event taught me teamwork and helped me develop creativity,” said Rinzin Paldon Lama, a student presenting the UNICEF stall.

Showcasing Global Diversity

The event featured:
✔️ Traditional cuisines from around the world
✔️ Landmarks, geography, and history of each country
✔️ Political systems, state heads, and languages
✔️ Insights into religions and unique cultural practices

Students, mentored by their teachers, took on the role of cultural ambassadors, proudly presenting their assigned countries with confidence and enthusiasm.

Dignitaries Praise the Initiative

The event was inaugurated by the mayor of Gokarneshwor Municipality and attended by several dignitaries, including Ashim Shah, a member of Nepal’s Federal Parliament.

“Every year, I make sure to attend this event. Each stall uniquely represents a country—be it Turkey, Myanmar, or Malaysia—showcasing its culture, geography, and history. This initiative fosters global learning not just for students but also for parents,” remarked Shah.

Vice-principal Deepesh Maharjan highlighted the importance of experiential learning, stating:

“We invited embassy representatives, and they have supported us immensely by sending materials and guidance. Our students present each country’s history, culture, and landscape, offering an immersive experience to visitors.”

Education Beyond Borders

The event exemplifies Nepal’s emphasis on “learning by doing”, encouraging students to engage in hands-on experiences for a deeper understanding of global diversity. By bringing together different cultures in a single space, Bouddha International School has successfully created a platform for global awareness, cooperation, and knowledge-sharing.

As students celebrated the rich tapestry of international traditions, they highlighted the power of education in bridging cultural divides and fostering a more interconnected world.
