India has strongly condemned the vandalism of Bangladesh’s founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence in Dhaka. The attack, carried out by a mob on Wednesday, resulted in severe damage to the historic site, with reports of fire and destruction of portraits.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the incident “regrettable” and emphasized its significance in Bangladesh’s national consciousness.
“The residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman symbolizes the heroic resistance of Bangladesh’s people against oppression. This act of vandalism should be strongly condemned,” Jaiswal stated.

According to reports from Dhaka Tribune, the attack was linked to online calls for a protest march against the Awami League. The demonstration gained momentum following an online speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
