The recruitment of Nepali Gorkhas into the Indian Army is rooted in a centuries-old relationship marked a symbol of strength and trust. The 1947 tripartite agreement formalized the arrangement, ensuring that thousands of Nepali youths would join the ranks of Indian Gorkha regiments, famed for their discipline and combat process.

Nepal’s Tradition disrupted

Nepal Gorkhas have played an important role in the Indian army, serving with distinction in various capacities. Nepal has its strong bond with India. Nepal has expressed its concerns about the implications of the scheme on its citizens leading to a temporary halt in recruitments.  In the year 2020 there was the same situation raised for Nepalis battalions. No recuirements took place due to Covid 19 after that Nepal ceased allowing its citizens to join Indian army under the Agneepath scheme .

In a general talk Army Commander Upendra Dwivedi, in a Press Conference said operational  preparedness won’t hinder at all. Dwivedi visited Nepal and was conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army, a gesture symbolic of the unique camaraderie between the two armies.

History of Gorkhas in Indian Army

Gorkha was established in 1560 , and initially became known as the Gorkhali Army.  It was officially renamed simply to the Nepali Army on 28 May 2008, upon the abolition of the 240-year-old. Almost thousands of Nepalis battalions have served Indian army since 1947.

Gorkhas absence surely affect India with its operational dynamics as well composed army family.
