The interim government of Professor Muhammad Yunus has strongly opposed US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard’s recent comments. Officials argue that her remarks lack evidence and misrepresent the country.

Bangladesh Calls Gabbard’s Remarks Misleading

In a Facebook post early Monday, the Chief Adviser’s Office criticized Gabbard’s statement. “They paint an entire nation with a broad and unjustified brush,” the post read. Moreover, officials emphasized that her claims unfairly damaged Bangladesh’s reputation.

Furthermore, they highlighted Bangladesh’s long-standing tradition of religious harmony. Additionally, they pointed out the country’s remarkable success in combating extremism and terrorism.

Gabbard Accuses Bangladesh of Religious Persecution

Speaking to an Indian news channel, Tulsi Gabbard alleged that Bangladesh has a history of persecuting and killing religious minorities. According to her, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians have faced long-term abuse.

Additionally, she claimed that “the threat of Islamic terrorists” in Bangladesh stems from an effort to establish an “Islamist caliphate.” She further stated that the US had already begun discussions with Bangladesh’s interim government regarding this issue.

Bangladesh Denies “Islamist Caliphate” Allegations

On the other hand, the Chief Adviser’s Office rejected Gabbard’s remarks. Officials called them “groundless” and argued that they ignored the country’s consistent efforts to maintain peace.

Moreover, the government firmly stated, “Bangladesh strongly condemns any efforts to link the country to any form of ‘Islamist caliphate.’” It also urged political leaders to avoid spreading harmful stereotypes that could fuel unnecessary fears and sectarian tensions.

Bangladesh Reaffirms Commitment to Countering Extremism

Meanwhile, Gabbard, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, spoke about extremist groups’ ambitions to create an Islamic Caliphate.

Nevertheless, Bangladesh acknowledged that, like many other nations, it faces challenges related to extremism. However, it stressed that the government continuously works to address these issues through law enforcement, social reforms, and international counterterrorism efforts.

Finally, the Chief Adviser’s Office reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to global peace. “Bangladesh remains committed to engaging in constructive dialogue based on facts and respect for sovereignty,” it stated.

In conclusion, Bangladesh firmly dismissed Gabbard’s allegations and reiterated its dedication to maintaining religious harmony and national security.
