The Bangladesh government has lodged a strong diplomatic protest against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in self-exile in India. Dhaka accuses her of making “false and fabricated” statements on social media, stirring instability in the country.

Dhaka Calls Hasina’s Remarks “Hostile”

Bangladesh’s foreign ministry officially handed a protest note to India’s acting high commissioner, expressing “deep concern, disappointment, and serious reservations” over Hasina’s statements. The government claims her speeches are inciting unrest and damaging bilateral ties.

India Yet to Respond to Extradition Request

Hasina fled to India in August 2024 after stepping down amid nationwide protests. Dhaka has since filed multiple criminal cases against her, including charges of extra-judicial killings. Bangladesh formally requested her extradition on December 12, 2024, but India has not yet responded, as confirmed by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in Rajya Sabha.

Religious Pilgrimage Canceled Amid Tensions

In a separate development, Bangladesh’s Anjuman-e-Kaderiya religious group canceled its request for a special train to West Bengal for the annual Urs event. This marks the first time in centuries that the group’s members will not attend the religious gathering.

Strained Relations Between India and Bangladesh

Sheikh Hasina’s presence in India remains a diplomatic concern, with Dhaka demanding immediate action to curb her statements. As tensions escalate, India’s response to Bangladesh’s demands remains crucial in shaping future relations between the two nations.
