‘Nrityakaar 2023’ held to pay tribute to renowned kathak dancer Pt. Birju Maharaj

With the objective to pay tribute to renowned Kathak dancer Pt. Birju Maharaj, Biltu Sarkar Performing Art Foundation organised “Nrityakaar 2023” (Festival of Indian Dance) at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi recently. This is also an annual festival of the organisation to showcase Kathak and other classical dance forms.
The event was graced by Padmashri Manjushree Chatterjee senior disciple of Late Pandit Shambhu Maharaj, Vidushi Saswati Sen (Senior Disciple of Padma Vibhushan late Pandit Birju Maharaj), Pt. Krishan Mohan Maharaj (Brother and senior disciple of Padma Vibhushan Late Pt Birju Maharaj).
First performance was ‘PANCHAKSHAR’ which was all about Shiva. Kathak choreography was done by Biltu Sarkar and performed by the students of the organisation. After that the students of the organization performed Dabari Tarana. The program was followed by the performance of young kathak dancers of the institute who performed Prarambh. These young students have started their Kathak journey. The young students grabbed the eye of the viewers.
The next performance was solo kathak recitals by Biltu Sarkar and he performed in Kabir Bhajan and the audience was mesmerized by his performance.
The event was followed by an award ceremony ‘Saadhak Samman Award’. Then there was a trophy distribution. This program ended with a vote of thanks and a positive note by Biltu Sarkar.
He said, “We organised this festival to encourage students and young talents who are taking training from us. It is a great opportunity for the students where they showcased their talent in front of experts, parents and audience. He also adds definitely we are now eagerly waiting for Nrityakaar 2024.”
