Police authorities in Bandipora, Kashmir, have apprehended five individuals, including a Rohingya man, in connection with an alleged human trafficking case involving Rohingya women.

According to SSP Lakshay Sharma, the accused organized the trafficking of Rohingya women from Bangladesh into the Union Territory, arranging marriages with locals in exchange for monetary gains. Manzoor Alam, a kingpin, is among those apprehended.

Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, SSP Sharma emphasized the illegality of infiltrating Rohingya women from Bangladeshi refugee camps into India and subsequently engaging in human trafficking by selling them as brides.

On November 23, local authorities launched an investigation into the trafficking, confirming two marriages of Rohingya women. Legal proceedings in the case have begun, addressing the crime’s dual nature: illegal infiltration and human trafficking.

Sharma stated that the investigation will continue in order to uncover more information about this illegal trafficking network.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently conducted a large-scale operation spanning 55 locations across 10 states and Union Territories, apprehending 44 people involved in human trafficking cases. Multiple modules involved in illegal trafficking were discovered by the NIA’s robes across multiple states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir.
