Security forces neutralized one terrorist and recovered his weapon during an intense operation launched early Monday morning after a group of infiltrated militants attacked an Army convoy near the Akhnoor sector, officials reported. The ongoing operation, spearheaded by the Army’s White Knight Corps, followed an early-morning assault by terrorists believed to have recently crossed into India from across the border.
According to initial reports, the three militants opened fire on the convoy around 6:30 a.m., targeting a forces’ ambulance, which sustained the most significant damage. The personnel inside narrowly escaped harm as the attackers fled into a nearby forest amid heavy retaliation from the troops.
Special forces, including the National Security Guards (NSG), were mobilized to contain the threat. The encounter by 2:45 p.m escalated, with loud explosions and intense gunfire echoing through the Bhattal area of Khour. A helicopter was also deployed for aerial surveillance, as forces tracked the terrorists through the dense forest.
The ambush reportedly occurred as the convoy traveled near the Assan temple in Jogwan village. Officials said the terrorists had briefly entered the temple, attempting to secure a mobile phone for communication before spotting the passing Army vehicles and launching the attack.
The Army confirmed in a statement that the recovery of the terrorist’s body and weapon marked a critical step in the ongoing operation. Security forces continue their pursuit of the remaining militants, intensifying efforts to secure the area and prevent further incursions.
