Security forces on Monday recovered a large number of arms and ammunition in the Kirni sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Authorities have been on high alert all along the LoC in the Rajouri and Poonch sectors of the Jammu region and on the intelligence inputs on Monday, a joint search operation was launched by SOG Poonch and 10 Assam in the Kirni area on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, said Poonch SSP Ramesh Kumar Angral.
“During the search, a bag full of arms and ammunition hidden under boulders was found near the LoC,” Angral was quoted as saying.
The seized items included four AK 56 assault rifles, four AK magazines, 141 AK rounds, two AGL grenades, two hand grenades, AK accessories, religious diaries, one bag and a rucksack.
SSP Poonch told the media that the investigations into this infiltration attempt were going on and initial leads have suggested that these arms and ammunition were to be smuggled to Kashmir Valley for Lashkar.
There have been several infiltration attempts in the current month so far. Also, there have been a lot of shelling incidents and many houses were damaged in the process in Kathua village near the LoC.
