Armenia has officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA), becoming the 104th full member. The announcement was made by Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson, during a meeting in New Delhi.

About the International Solar Alliance

Founded by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President François Hollande in 2015, ISA aims to:

  • Scale up solar energy deployment worldwide.
  • Reduce solar power costs by aggregating demand.
  • Promote innovation, technology, and capacity building in solar energy.

The Alliance has set an ambitious goal of mobilizing over $1,000 billion in investments for solar energy projects by 2030.

India’s Leadership in Sustainable Energy

India, as the headquarters of the ISA, plays a pivotal role in advancing global solar energy adoption. Notable projects under India’s ISA presidency include:

  • Solarisation of Malawi’s Parliamentary building.
  • Solar-powered healthcare centers in Fiji.
  • Solar cold storage facilities in Seychelles.
  • Rooftop solar PV systems in Kiribati.

India has also facilitated training programs for experts from member nations, empowering them to implement solar energy solutions effectively.

A Platform for Global Collaboration

The ISA is a treaty-based international organization uniting countries to overcome barriers in technology, finance, and capacity building for solar energy. It serves as a critical platform to address climate change and transition to cleaner energy sources on a global scale.

Armenia’s Commitment to Clean Energy

Armenia’s inclusion in the ISA highlights its dedication to renewable energy and sustainable development, further strengthening international collaboration in the fight against climate change.

A Growing Alliance

Earlier this year, Paraguay became the 100th full member of the ISA. With Armenia’s entry, the Alliance continues to expand its impact in fostering a sustainable energy future.
