Apple is deepening its presence in India with plans to open four additional retail stores across Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. This move follows the successful openings of Apple’s first two stores in Delhi and Mumbai in April 2023. Apple’s expansion in India is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its retail footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets.

In addition to expanding its retail presence, Apple has significantly increased its manufacturing activities in India. The company announced that it will now manufacture the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the high-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, locally. These India-made iPhones will not only serve the domestic market but also be exported to select countries. This is a major step forward for Apple, which began its manufacturing operations in India in 2017, initially producing older iPhone models.

This local production initiative aligns with India’s “Make in India” strategy and the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which aims to attract tech manufacturers to set up production facilities in the country. Apple’s involvement in this scheme further underscores its commitment to the Indian market, where the demand for premium products is rapidly increasing.

Apple’s retail expansion is also fueled by strong consumer demand. CEO Tim Cook previously highlighted that India is a crucial market for the company, achieving record revenues in recent years. As a result, Apple is investing heavily in its infrastructure and workforce, with plans to increase its current 3,000 employees in India.
