The ongoing anti-terror operation in the Dudu area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district entered its second day on Tuesday as security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police continue their efforts to eliminate militants hiding in the region.

The operation intensified after militants opened fire on a joint patrol party in the Cheel area of Dudu on Monday, resulting in the death of CRPF Inspector Kuldeep Kumar. The incident led to a fierce encounter between the militants and security forces.

“During an area domination patrol at Chill, Dudu, an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and joint parties of the JKP and CRPF. In the encounter, one Inspector of CRPF suffered bullet injuries and attained martyrdom. The operation is ongoing,” said the Udhampur police.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held in honor of Inspector Kuldeep Kumar, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Udhampur-Reasi Range) Rayees Mohammad Bhat acknowledged the challenges faced during the operation, highlighting the difficult terrain, dense forests, and lack of network coverage in the area. “This is very sad, but it is part of our duty,” Bhat remarked. He added that despite the obstacles, security forces are using technology, including drones, to track down and neutralize the remaining militants.

Security has been tightened across the region as the operation continues, with forces remaining on high alert for potential threats. The CRPF paid tribute to Inspector Kumar in a statement on X, saluting his courage and commitment. “CRPF salutes our brave soldier’s indomitable courage, valor, and devotion to the motherland. We always stand with the family of our brave man,” the statement read.

The operation underscores the persistent security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir as the region gears up for its upcoming assembly elections, set to take place in three phases in September and October. The security situation remains a critical concern as polling dates approach.
