With another highest single-day spike of 66,999 coronavirus cases and 950 fatalities in the last 24 hours, India’s death toll overtook the United Kingdom on Thursday. India’s death toll now stands at 47,274 whereas the UK has recorded around 41,000 deaths so far. The country now has 24,11,547 total cases. A record 8,30,391 samples were tested in the last 24 in the country which took the cumulative testing figure in India to 2,68,45,688.

Reeling under the Covid situation, Maharashtra recorded the highest single-day spike of 11,813 coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours. The state’s tally increased to 5,60,126. The death of 413 patients pushed the death toll to 19,063. Meanwhile, the state’s capital Mumbai alone recorded 1200 new Covid-19 cases, 884 recoveries and 48 deaths in the last twenty-four hours. Total positive cases in the city i n c r e a s e d t o 1,27,571 including 19,332 active cases, 1,00,954 recoveries and 6,988 deaths till date. Recovery rate now stands at 79 percent. The national capital  also  reported 956 new Covid-19 positive cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in Delhi is now at 1,49,460 including 10,975 active cases and 1,34,318 recoveries. The city has seen 4,167 deaths so far due to the deadly coronavirus.

Tamil Nadu also recorded 5,835 new coronavirus cases and 119 deaths in the last 24 hours which took the overall tally to 3,20,355 total  cases and the  overall death toll to 5,397. Meanwhile, its neighbouring state Karnataka  also  reported 6,706 new cases and 103 fatalities pushed the death toll to 3,613. Uttar Pradesh reported 50 more Covid-19 deaths and 4,537 new cases of the infection in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 1,40,775 and the death toll is at 2,280.

 The Covid-19 death toll in Haryana reached 511 as eight more people succumbed to the disease, while 793 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 44,817.  Meanwhile, Punjab reported 1,035 new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total number to 27,936. The death toll increased to 706 after 36 deaths were reported in the last twentyfour hours.

Andhra Pradesh Covid-19 tally shot up to 2,64,142 as 9,996 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. The state also registered 82 more coronavirus deaths, taking the overall count to 2,378. Also, 9,499 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours after they recovered from the viral infection.
