Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are set to captivate audiences in the upcoming psychological drama ‘Mothers’ Instinct.’ The newly released trailer teases a compelling narrative of friendship and betrayal, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, directed by acclaimed cinematographer Benoit Delhomme in his directorial debut for Neon Production House, takes viewers back to the 1960s. Hathaway and Chastain portray Alice and Celine, two suburban wives and best friends whose perfect lives are shattered by a tragic accident involving one of their sons.
The trailer reveals the chilling aftermath of the accident, showing Alice and Celine consumed by guilt, suspicion, and paranoia, which strains their once solid friendship. In a poignant moment, Celine pleads with Alice, “Something is broken inside of me, and I need you,” setting the stage for the escalating psychological tension.

As accusations mount between the two women, Hathaway’s character confronts Chastain’s with unsettling questions, leading to intense exchanges that suggest darker motives hidden behind their refined appearances.
Produced by Hathaway and Chastain alongside Kelly Carmichael under Chastain’s Freckle Films banner, ‘Mothers’ Instinct’ is a remake of the 2018 Belgian film ‘Duelles.’ Financed by Anton, the film offers a stylish retro-thriller experience, contrasting the immaculate 1960s setting with the unraveling internal conflicts of the characters.
The trailer provides a glimpse into the complex relationship between Alice and Celine, as their maternal instincts spiral into a dangerous game of manipulation and distrust. ‘Mothers’ Instinct’ is set to premiere in select theatres on July 26, with a digital release following in August.
