The psychological thriller movie “Eileen,” directed by William Oldroyd, will feature American actor Anne Hathaway as a mystery jail psychologist, according to People.
Neon released the ‘Eileen’ trailer on Tuesday. This is Anne Hathaway’s most recent movie. In the film, Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho, Jojo Rabbit) and Oscar winner, 40, play 1960s jail inmates who create an unusual connection that ends up being dangerous.
According to People, the trailer introduces Rebecca (Hathaway), a platinum-blonde psychotherapist who smokes cigarettes and acts as a mentor to McKenzie’s character Eileen, played by the 23-year-old actress.
Causeway, the Jennifer Lawrence-Brian Tyree Henry film from the previous year, was written by Moshfegh and her husband Luke Goebel. The second of two films in fall 2023 in which Anne Hathaway plays a psychologist is titled Eileen. According to People, she also stars alongside Peter Dinklage and Marisa Tomei in the brand-new love film She Came to Me.
“I saw Eileen at Sundance and then I saw [She Came to Me] at Berlin, and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I scream in two independent films this year,’ ” Hathaway told IndieWire in October while promoting the latter movie, which has made an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA amid its ongoing strike.
Eileen releases in New York and Los Angeles-based movie theatres on December 1 and everywhere on December 8.
