The latest on this Nayanthara film which was taken off Netflix is that a BJP leader wants Zee Studios banned over such ‘anti-Hindu narratives.
On the ‘Annapoorani’ movie issue, BJP leader T Raja Singh said, “I have heard that Zee Studios has apologized but an apology will do nothing. We have seen many times that such films are being made to hurt the sentiments of Hindus. I appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ban Zee Studios and take action against such directors, actors who make such films.”
The BJP leader added, “Look at the movie’s script: a priest’s daughter loves a Muslim man. The female lead is told to recite the Quran and pressured to cook biryani. The Muslim hero tells the heroine that she should not hesitate to eat meat since Lord Rama himself consumed meat.”
As the controversy erupted, Zee Studios issued an apology stating, “We have no intentions as co-producers of the film to hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu and Brahmin communities and would hereby like to apologise for the inconvenience and hurt caused to the sentiments of the respective communities.”
The movie was taken off Netflix on January 10 and Zee Studios said it would be edited before going back on the OTT platform.
