After consuming the midday meal on school premises, over 15 students from a government primary school in Tekulapalem village, Annamayya district, Andhra, were admitted to a hospital. The students claimed that a lizard that slipped into the rice while it was cooking was the reason behind their sickness. The children who were impacted were taken to the hospital by the authorities as soon as they learned of the incident.
Revenue Division Officer (RDO) Murali, upon reaching the hospital, reassured that the situation wasn’t severe, with no reports of vomiting among the students. He affirmed that all children are recovering and will be discharged to their homes once fully recuperated.
Despite extensive inspections, neither the school nor the authorities found any signs of contamination, according to the headmaster of the institution, who also claimed that there was no evidence of a lizard in the cooking vessels. He went on to say that since everyone is secure and immunized, there is no need to be concerned. There have been previous reports of students becoming ill after eating a midday meal.
Earlier in the month of October, sixteen students of a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run school allegedly fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal in Mumbai’s Anik village.
