Senior IAS officer Neerabh Kumar Prasad has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary to the government of Andhra Pradesh by replacing the incumbent, Dr KS Jawahar Reddy.

On Friday, official orders were issued regarding the appointment. Neerabh Kumar Prasad, a 1987 batch IAS officer who was serving as the Special Chief Secretary to the Government in the Environment, Forest, Science & Technology Department, has been transferred and appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, as stated in an official release. The current Chief Secretary, Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy, who was on leave, has been transferred without a new posting.

This decision follows the landslide victory of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, in the southern state, winning 135 out of the total 175 seats in the Andhra assembly, thus maintaining its dominance. Its allies, the Janasena Party led by Pawan Kalyan, and the BJP, secured 21 and eight seats, respectively. Meanwhile, the ruling YSRCP was limited to 11 seats in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy tendered his resignation on Tuesday after his party, the YSR Congress Party, was defeated by the tripartite alliance in the Assembly elections. The governor accepted CM Reddy’s resignation and instructed him to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister until the new government assumes office.
