India recorded 55,079 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 2,719,499. With 880 fatalities reported, the country›s death toll has surged to 52,060. India, currently the third-most-affected country by total cases and fourth by death toll, has now left behind even the US and Brazil in its seven-day average of daily new coronavirus cases. The five most-affected states with regard to their total number of cases are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. However, the positivity rate in the country has come down from 10.03% to 7.72%.

Among individual state numbers, Andhra Pradesh became the third state after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in the country to cross the three-lakh mark in the overall number of coronavirus cases. The state now has 3,06,261 cases after 9,652 were added in the last 24 hours but the number of active cases stands only at 85,130, with 2,18,311 patients having recovered so far.

 In the north, Uttar Pradesh reported its worst single-day spike of 70 fatalities, pushing the Covid-19 death toll in the state to 2,585. Haryana recorded the highest singleday jump of 896 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 48,936.
