Punjab Police uncover alleged “anti-national” activities linked to radical preacher’s associate
Punjab Police announced on Thursday that they have recovered sensitive material from an associate of radical preacher Amritpal Singh, indicating their involvement in “anti-national” activities. Tejinder Singh Gill, a member of the private security team of Khalistan sympathizer Amritpal Singh, was arrested by Khanna Police earlier in the day.
Addressing the media, Punjab Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill stated that during questioning, police obtained evidence from Gill’s mobile phone which suggests that the group was involved in “anti-national” activities. “There were videos which show that they were doing firing practice near Jallupur Khera. Some footage and pictures show that they have made holograms of Anandpur Khalsa Fauj (AKF). There were some videos of the loading and unloading of weapons,” he added.
The IG further added that the evidence obtained so far gives a strong suspicion that Amritpal Singh had a cross-border link.
207 persons have been detained in the matter, out of which 30 are hardcore criminals. The remaining 177 will be released after verification, he added.
He further stated that the instructions were explicit in ensuring that no innocent individuals were implicated in the matter, and that only those involved in criminal activities would be subject to consequences.
