Faridkot MP Sarbjeet Singh Khalsa has announced that Amritpal Singh, detained under the National Security Act, will take his oath on July 5. Khalsa revealed that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has confirmed this information to him.
Amritpal, the leader of Waris Punjab De, is expected to be transported directly to Parliament from Assam’s Dibrugarh jail via helicopter, according to sources within the Punjab police.
Ghansham Thori, the deputy commissioner of Amritsar, has confirmed that Singh has been granted parole. The parole, effective from July 5, will last for up to four days under certain conditions communicated to the Dibrugarh Jail Superintendent. The Amritsar Police will accompany Singh to Delhi.
On Monday morning, several rebel leaders visited Singh’s parents at their home in Amritsar. Recently, the Punjab Government submitted an application to Speaker Om Birla requesting parole for Singh to take his oath as the Khadoor Sahib MP.
Supporters of the pro-Khalistan leader believe that this opportunity will allow Singh to fulfil his duties and challenge his image as an anarchist. However, they are hesitant to address the contradiction in Singh’s stance, as he had previously claimed a lack of faith in the Indian Constitution before contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
