Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters in Haryana to participate in the Assembly elections to help keep the state free from corruption. In a post on X, he stated, “The people of Veer Bhoomi Haryana are voting today. Your vote is essential in keeping Haryana free from corruption and financial misconduct. I encourage all my sisters and brothers to vote to sustain development and elect a government that extends its reach from one district to every village in Haryana.”
Shah emphasized that only a government with a proven record of development and good governance—not one that makes empty promises—can truly benefit the people of Haryana. Over two crore citizens are eligible to vote in this election, which will determine whether the BJP maintains power for a third consecutive term or if the Congress returns after a decade-long absence.
This election is significant, with the BJP seeking to secure a third term, while the Congress hopes to reclaim power by capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments and addressing issues like farmer and wrestler protests. Key players in this contest include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and alliances such as the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).
Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates contesting across 90 assembly constituencies and 20,632 polling booths set up for the process. Results for the Haryana Assembly elections will be announced alongside those for Jammu and Kashmir on October 8. In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 of the 90 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats, while Congress obtained 31 seats. However, the JJP later parted ways with the coalition.
