Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a crucial meeting in Delhi on Monday evening to assess the security situation in Manipur. The meeting, scheduled for 4 pm at the Ministry of Home Affairs’ North Block office, will see the participation of senior officials from the central government, including Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, as well as key officials from Manipur, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, and representatives from the Army and other security forces.

This meeting follows Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uike’s recent visit to the Home Minister’s office, where she was briefed on the state’s current conditions. The decision to convene the meeting comes amid renewed violence in the region, with reports of clashes and arson incidents affecting both the Meitei and Kuki communities in areas like Kotlen.

The unrest stems from long-standing tensions, particularly after clashes during a rally last year by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) regarding the Meitei community’s status in the Scheduled Tribe category. The situation has escalated, leading to displacement as hundreds seek refuge in neighboring Assam’s Cachar district. In response, Cachar district police have heightened security along the border to address the ongoing challenges.
