A notification released on Thursday announced the reappointment of retired bureaucrats Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor as advisors to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khare, who retired in 2021, served as a 1985-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Jharkhand cadre and has previously advised PM Modi on multiple occasions. Kapoor, also retiring in 2021, belonged to the 1987-batch IAS cadre of Himachal Pradesh.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of the following officers as Advisors to PM, in the Prime Minister’s Ofice, in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India, for a period of two years with effect from 10.06.2024 or until further orders whichever is earlier, on contract basis as per usual terms and conditions as are applicable,” Hindustan Times quoted the government notification as saying.
– Amit Khare played a pivotal role in exposing the fodder scam linked to Lalu Prasad Yadav while serving as the district magistrate of Chaibasa in undivided Bihar.
– He retired as Secretary (Department of Higher Education) in the Union Ministry of Education on September 30, 2021.
– Khare has also held the position of Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
– He is renowned for his involvement in formulating the National Education Policy.
– Khare is recognized for spearheading significant reforms in digital media regulations during his tenure at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
