Despite record-breaking spike in the number of Covid cases, the Delhi Metro services are all set to resume on Monday in the national capital. The plan is to open the services in a staggered manner, in three stages. The Yellow Line (connecting Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurugram) and the Rapid Metro will be made operational first after being closed for over five months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Delhi reported its biggest spike in the last 72 days with 3,256 new cases and 29 deaths, taking the total tally to 1,91,449 and death toll to 4,567. The tally includes 20,909 active cases and 1,65,973 recovered cases.

With 90,633 new cases, the total number of Covid infections in India crossed the 41- lakh mark. Of the 41,13,812 cases, 8,62,320 are active infections, while 31,80,866 patients have already been discharged. As many as 1065 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, taking the casualties in the country to 70,626. The country has nearly 11,600 cases more than Brazil’s tally. However, Brazil’s death toll is about 1.7 times more than India’s. This marked the fifth straight day when more than 80,000 infections were identified.

 Maharashtra remained the most affected state in the country due to coronavirus. The state recorded 3,350 new coronavirus cases and 328 deaths in the last twenty-four hours, taking the total number of cases to 9,07,212 and death toll to 26,604. The tally includes 6,44,400 discharges and 2,35,857 active cases.

Uttar Pradesh too reported its highest single-day spike of 6,777 Covid-19 cases and 77 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the state’s infection tally has reached 2,66,283 and the death count mounted to 3,920. The state now has 61,625 active Covid-19 cases. Another state Gujarat reported the highest singleday spike of 1,335 new coronavirus cases, taking the total count of infections in the state to 1,04,341. With 14 more deaths, the cumulative toll went up to 3,108.

Haryana reported the highest single-day spike in its Covid-19 death toll with 25 more people succumbing to the disease. 2,277 fresh cases pushed its coronavirus tally to 76,549. With 25 deaths, the number of fatalities rose to 806 in the state. Madhya Pradesh also reported 1,694 new Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 16,115, recoveries to 55,887 and death toll to 1,572.

Southern states like Tamil Nadu reported 5,783 new Covid-19 cases, taking the count for active cases in the state to 51,458. As many as 5,820 people were discharged after being recovered from the disease. 88 patients have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours. With this, the discharged cases have risen to 4,04,186 and the death toll to 7,836.Kerala reported its highest ever single-day spurt in coronavirus cases with 3,082 people testing positive for the pathogen and 10 related fatalities, taking the total infection count in the state to 87,840. With 10 more deaths the count rose to 347 in the state.

Karnataka reported 9,319 new Covid-19 cases and 95 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 99,266. There have been 2,92,873 recoveries and 6,393 deaths. Andhra Pradesh reported an addition of 10,794 new Covid-19 cases and 70 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases is now at 4,98,125 including 99,689 active cases, 3,94,019 recoveries and 4,417 deaths.
