AMID COVID-19, TRIPURA HC REJECTS TMC PLEA TO HOLD RALLY ON 22 SEPTEMBER

TMC leader Shantanu Sen said that the state’s BJP government is scared of the Trinamool Congress and that is why it is trying to hinder their political activities, under the garb of legalities.

Keeping in view the Covid-19 situation in the state, Trinamool’s Abhishek Banerjee will not be able to hold any meeting or procession till November 4 in Tripura, stated an official decree of the Tripura High Court. Earlier, on Tuesday morning, Tripura CM Biplob Deb also banned the holding of any meeting in the state, citing the similar reasons. However, according to some sections of the political circles, the reason behind this is political.

The Trinamool Congress had sought permission for Abhishek Banerjee, the All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, to hold a march for the third time. The matter was taken to the Tripura High Court. During the hearing of the case, the court said that the Tripura government had informed that it was not allowing any meeting, committee, or any procession in view of the Covid-19 situation in the state. The ban is in place until November 4.

“Any kind of meeting/procession/public gathering by any political party in Sadar Police Subdivision (East Agartala and West Agartala areas) is prohibited w. e.f. 6 A.M of 21.09.2021 to midnight 04.11.2021,” said the notification.

A single judge high court bench of justice Arindam Lodh on Tuesday rejected TMC’s petition for staying the notification.

In this context, the Tripura High Court said that the court does not want to interfere in any way in the decision taken by the Tripura government in the panemic situation. As a result, Abhishek Banerjee’s march for Wednesday has been canceled. Although the Trinamool alleges that the BJP government has used this legal step to stop Abhishek.

Because, before that, their program was not allowed on September 15. After that, the procession of Abhishek was canceled on 16 September, citing the reasons of Bishwakarma Pujo.

TMC leader Shantanu Sen said the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is scared of them and that is why it is trying to hinder their political activities.

“But we are with the people, and we will stick to them in the coming days as well,” Sen was quoted saying by the Hindustan Times.

On the contrary, BJP claims that this decision has been taken by the government in view of the emergency situation, and it has nothing to do with politics.

Meanwhile, Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh fell ill during interrogation at Tripura police station on the same day. He was summoned for questioning by the Tripura Police. The interrogation lasted for some time, and in the midst, Ghosh fell ill at the police station. He was rushed to ILS Hospital in Tripura for treatment.
