In August 2024, electricity bills varied significantly across the United States. Connecticut had the highest average bill at $254.47. Arizona followed closely with $252.60, while Texas ranked third with an average of $233.38.
Conversely, Washington recorded the lowest bill at $100.56. Montana and Wyoming had slightly higher bills, with averages of $114.25 and $114.75, respectively.
According to a recent LendingTree study, the average electricity bill in August 2024 reached $185.59. This represents a 2.6% increase from the previous year. As a result, energy costs continue to contribute to the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Furthermore, the report revealed that the rising energy prices have caused financial strain for many Americans. Over one-third (34.3%) of people have been forced to cut back on essential expenses. Additionally, 23.4% of Americans have struggled to pay their bills in full.
